Procedure For Setting Up and Operating a Non-ambulatory Decon Line In Practical Demonstrations NOTE: This regimen is strictly for use in exercises. For use in Law Enforcement, Health Care, and forty hour Advanced courses. This is a single station, demonstration only set-up and not an entire decontamination line. Student Activities and Preparation. Students will be in Level D uniform for this demonstration. Station involves rolling of a patient and possible lifting. Decon procedures will be simulated, except for suit removal and evidence collection. Equipment Preparation. Required equipment. o 1 Tarp.o 2 rolling racks.o 2 pair trauma shears.o 2 large pans.o 1 hose with wand.o 2 buckets.o 1 sprayer.o 1 water wand.o 2 scrub brushes.o 1 UV light or GM detector.o 2 long boards.o 2 9-foot straps.o 1 evidence collection bag.o 1 manikin dressed in Tyvek suit and mask.o Detergent/ stimulant contaminant.Optional: Simulated bomb belt or weapon may be hidden inside the Tyvek suit of the manikin. Decon Set Up. · Use the above as a checklist for assembling the elements of the line.· Manikin should be dressed in Tyvek suit and lashed to board runners up.· Lay out trap and berm the edges.· Open the rolling racks and join end-to-end. Brakes on!!· Trauma shears tied to first rack where accessible.· Manikin now placed on first rolling rack and sprayed with simulant.· Place pans under first section.· 1 bucket and brush on each side of rack.· 1 sprayer on side opposite hose.· Second long board on second rack.· UV light placed adjacent to first rack. NOTE: The UV light is used to illuminate the stimulant prior to decon as a demonstration. It would ordinarily be at the end of the decon line.
Demonstration Procedure. Students should line each side of the racks, equally distributed. The UV light is brought in to illuminate the simulant. Straps removed, and clothing cut off with edges rolled as far under the victim as possible. If a simulated device were found, the line would be abandoned until ordinance disposal took place. This action is verbalized. Victim is rolled to side and clothing rolled toward center upon itself. Using evidence preservation technique, the clothing is bagged. Gross wash-down applied and patient returned to supine position. Soap and water applied and scrubbed in. Water only rinse applied. Victim rolled to side and posterior portions are soaped and rinsed. Contaminated board is removed toward Hot Zone. Clean board from the Cold Zone is slid into place and victim returned to the supine position. Victim is pushed onto the second rack where next decon operation would take place. This is also verbalized.
